Check out this informational video where Rodarte designers explain the pieces they currently have up at MOCA's Pacific Design Center for their show: "Rodarte: States of Matter."
Here's a new video in support of J's great new record, Several Shades of Why. Chad VanGaalen (who has a new record out in May (right on)) created the visuals.
I was lucky enough to check out William Basinski improvising on 30 year old analog tape loops...this is ambient music, but to me, the way Basinski arrives at the final sound is the most intriguing part of the experience. Each piece of tape has it's own story and comes to it's own conclusion...perhaps differently each time.
Members of Olivia Tremor Control, Circulatory System, Elf Power, The Late BP Helium, the Gerbils and other E6 affiliates played a ramshackle 3.5 hour set in Brooklyn Tuesday. There were sing alongs, chants, horns, a giant snowman, stories and a magic piano playing castle amongst other things (Jeff Mangum....who did not play). The video above would be of Julian Koster backing up the magic piano playing castle with a saw...the jam is, like, Romanian or something. This all reminded me what a weird place Athens, Ga is - music meant to be played on 100 year old creaky wood floorboards.
Umshini Wam is the new Harmony Korine short that just premiered at SXSW two days ago featuring Die Antwoord, wheelchairs, machine guns and general a WTF Harmony Korine story line. Oh, there are also hologram accessories for the wheelchairs.
Here is some unreal footage I found on CNN showing the recent tsunami in Japan. As if the imagery isn't enough, the footage is paired with minimal keys and ambient textures turning the clip into something of a dream which is an oddity for an outlet such as CNN.
This was one of three in-stores Kurt played Tuesday night. I was lucky enough to slide into the Generation Records basement to check out his second gig of the night. The sound was pretty fantastic and Kurt ran through around 45 minutes of material.
This is by far the biggest video game I have ever played. I mean, I jumped through fire, over water, fought giant karate men and possibly a scorpion then calmly walked to the next room to soak in some contemporary fringe art.
Check out this preview for the new oM EP out later this spring...And then behold the awesome cover art. Since when did these guys stop making sexxx jamz?
This dude is absolutely crazy and I'm so glad he captured all of this rad footage of the old City Hall station, Canal Street sewers, Lincoln Tunnel tunnels and the top of the Williamsburg bridge...because I was totally going to go out and do all of that stuff myself. What a maniac!
