New Thurston

I'm either getting old and and "out of touch," or new guitar music just isn't there (or good). I'm old and the latter. This one's got some "Murray Street" vibes for sure. Thurston!

Owen Pallett's Take on Looping in 2014

Interesting perspective and a totally true bit- Pretty much every band in the late 2000's was a looping band.

Horrors + Thurston

Clearly iPhone live shots so the sound isn't great, but the effect the lights have on the camera turn this into an interesting visual peice on its own.

Atoms for Peace: "Before Your Very Eyes"

It's been a while since I've really enjoyed a music video for it's aesthetics...seems like a lot of work went into this one.  Nice transition to richer color as the synths come in and warm the song a bit...And of course there's Thom Yorke's face.

Wow, this is sounding really good right now. Looking forward to a new one soon!

How Recycled Glass Bottles Are Made

This is pretty fascinating- We've now got the technology to fully recycle glass waste into glass products made entirely of re-used material.  Cool stuff.

Rap Quotes On A Street Corner in Your Hood, NYC.

Here's a pretty awesome idea, borrowing from other similar street artist stunts but certainly a novel take.

Chasing Ice

Chasing Ice Trailer from milkhaus on Vimeo.

I don't believe in overzealism.  You find this a lot when it comes to the matter of global warming and the impact human toll is having on our planet.  I prefer to rationally look at all sides and theories but I'll keep my personal views to myself because they do not add anything to the fact that Chasing Ice is an excellently well conceived and shot story.  It's got more than just another 'the world is dying and you are doing this' point of view and tone.   The film does have an agenda, a very rational one.  One that the creators set out to back up with scientific opinion and evidence which they capture for the film.

Check it out.

Dinosaur Jr: "Pierce The Morning Rain"

This is just fantastic...Do you remember when music videos used to follow some absurd narrative?  I'm glad this exists.

Faktum Hotels: Help the Homeless in Sweeden By Booking Their "Rooms"

At a very quick first glance, I thought this was a joke...but it's actually a creative way to bring awareness and money to Gothenburg Sweeden's homeless contingent.  Ad agency Forsman and Bodenfors is responsible for the awareness campaign. Somewhat humorously, you can book a "room" at one of 10 locations in Gothenburg known as safe havens for the city's homeless for $10 a night.  Each experience is tagged with its own cheeky description.  For example:

"At the warf you stay with stunning views over the river...within easy walking distance...the world's largest floating ship experience."

Essentially, you are donating money in $10 increments to a local street newspaper, Faktum, who in turn use all proceeds to help the area's homeless.

Check out Faktum Hotels.
