2010: Up To This Point [Albums]

...and today take a look at just a few of the records that have been on high spin around my confines up to this point.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti Before Today
Lo-fi super weirdo Ariel Pink put together a polished (by his standards) record that sounds like, well Ariel Pink.  A unique listen.

Beach House Teen Dream
Beach house seem to have nailed the calm reverbed guitar bedtime-pop songs they introduced to us on their first two albums- Victoria Legrand's vocals are a  real strong point on this one.

Besnard Lakes The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night
...a great album from an underrated Canadian band who believes in the album.

Glenn Branca The Ascension – The Sequel
Like the title suggests, this is a follow-up album to Branca's touchstone record The Ascension...30 years later!  The amazing thing about this record is that it is a logical extension of the first record and the recording sounds more or less unchanged by updated recording technology.  Dissonant and tense.

LCD Soundsystem This Is Happening
...a stellar and possible swan song album for James Murphy and friends.

Liars Sisterworld
I was looking forward to this one for quite some time and it does not disappoint.  Liars combine elements from each of their previous records (hints of post-punk, tribal drumming, hardcore (seriously) and all out abrasion topped off with Angus' new-found penchant for Morrison/Waits styled vocals) into a cohesive slab of wax.

Julian Lynch Mare
...an interesting and well put together album from native New Jerseyite, multi-instrumentalist and ethnomusicology student Julian Lynch.

National High Violet
If these guys didn't have enough fans before, they do now (and well deserved at that).  High Violet is an instant classic of an album with a big sound, big baritone vocals courtesy of front man Matt Berninger and well-written verse.

Robert Pollard We All Got Out of the Army
...a solid Bob Pollard solo record that is worth your time.

Serena-Maneesh No2: Abyss In B Minor
Certainly not SM's best effort, but there are enough layers and surprises on this one to be worth repeat listens!
